Wow, your hoping that a-net can fix a universal problem? You're kidding right?

Honestly, people get divorced over this issue. Business fail over this. War's start over this... If anet could fix everyone moods, and control the way people react to each other, they'd not only be king of all games, but rulers of the world!!

Basically, you want better (although questionably better, maybe just easier?) communication, get vent or ts. Don't leave it in A-nets hands to give you more communication options, even though they have mentioned in-game voice at some point.

I know your upset, alot of people are, which further fans the flames for the mood/communication/reactions issues. You're playing a game that has a large audience of 12-16 yr olds that have wierd/unstable mentalities to begin with, you can't possible expect the world of players to grow up, can you?

The top guilds have a good cinergy, top pvp players work as a team, they understand the short commings of build deeply and leave alot of the bs attitudes at the door. They could even just use team chat and do well... Not everyone has that with thier team mates all the time, not even top guilds!

I'd love to see people all just get along, but I'd be far from pressing the issue with a-net to *fix* what goes wrong with the population at large.

Lawnmower,

I can say that I understand where you are coming from and agree with most of your complaints.

Communication is hard in ANY online game, though Anet could improve upon the system thats in place tremendously. I like the idea someone posted above about more channels like Recruitment, and Rookie help. If we had seperate channels for different needs it may help to clean up the chat window.

I sense the deeper problem you have with playing Guild Wars is the seemingly complete abscence of nice people to play and enjoy the game with. I tend to feel this way too.

To those of you who say "find a guild and stfu", your the exact type of in-game ass I am sick of. So you want me to find a good guild....How do you suggest I go about this? Hmmm maybe Ill just spam the chat saying I am LF fun guild.. Maybe I just join up with one of those constant "Guild recruiting" spammers... I look at the Guild Recruiting threads on forums but they really don't say much expect "we have cool cape and hall", ya that tells me a lot.

I consider myself a nice, friendly gamer who is willing to help others and enjoys talking in team chat to try and meet new people who have the same mentality as me. Instead I get told to STFU, go away noob, you don't know how to play, blah blah blah.

The bad people in this game outnumber and OUT CHAT type the average, nice players like Lawnmower and myself. I personally am to the point where its just not worth it to speak up on chat anymore. Its like all the nice people have given up on being friendly and talking nicely to each other. We have become like in-game hermits who mostly solo or hench the quests and missions and keep to ourselves.
I have been in 2 guilds. While the people were nice, they had different interests than I did. Its not that I didn't like them, they just weren't into PvE like I am.

And I read about how hard it is to get into PvP here. Some say you just have to get out and do it to learn it. Some say don't even try to learn it. I personally have tried PvP and I just don't know what I am doing. It is SOOOO different from PvE play that I feel lost. I read the builds and skills to use here on the forum, but it just doesn't sink in to me, I need to learn by doing. So do I go to the Arena's and ask for someone to help me learn? ARE YOU CRAZY? Can you imagine what people say to me? I try random areana's figuring if I mess up it won't bother people that much....wrong! Its worse. So ya, its hard for me to get into PvP when people DO NOT give you even a chance to learn and are constantly yelling and criticising you. Its just not fun and not worth the hassle.

I don't know how to fix these types of problems, I don't know if we can. I think that once you get a community of players the size of Guild Wars there has to be more policing done, Be it by ourselves or by Anet or both.

The poster above who said that Guild Wars is just to big, well, they are right. There is complete anonymity. Do something wrong and you can just keep doing it because there are too many of us to care. There exists very little sense of community outside of Guilds and Alliances.

Now, if we had smaller servers or even more servers that we could play on, that may help. People would tend to keep playing on their favorite server and would get to know each other better and be able to recognize each other. Then if someone got out of hand, the community would take notice and do something about that offender.

Well, I could go on but I got to get back to work.

Lawnmower, add Circling Skies to your friends list if you want to play the game with a friendly like-minded person.

later.

Ok...now you guys are going nonsense.

First, what “gabrial” said is TROUTH, there are THOUSANDS of 12 - 17 kids playing the game and their minds are just not fully developed to even UNDERSTAND the concepts of a well built society, add to that TOTAL anonymity they get on Guild Wars and there you go, you get an "ass player". Anet would NEVER be able to solve that, GOD DAMMNIT, we have over 1000 COMPLETELY DIFERENT RELIGIONS with MILLIONS of follower and NONE of them figured out a way to do that....

Anet job IS to keep the game friendly to all, and that SADLY involves some "reward and punishment" work as I am used to say, which means, reward the ones that contribute to society and punish the ones that try to dismantle it, the humanity took over 2000 years of development to work that out, lets hope SOME TIME anet discovers it and start policing the "world" it created.

All that said, this IS NOT a problem direct involved to the game, no matter how much policies anet does, it will STILL remain "ass players" in there, the really problem with the game is that you have no means WHATSOEVER to find ANYONE similar to you and avoid the "ass players" described. THAT is a MAJOR design problem, and definitely anet´s job is to work that out some time (and by the way, they already have knowledge of the problem, and promise us to fix it since Guild Wars began...).

Later.

OK, I've heard enough of this blanket statement that "every game is just as bad" in regards to the levels of asshattery in-game. Now I'm more than willing to admit that your mileage may vary, but I really wonder sometimes if you people even PLAY other games (MMOs in this regard).

I've played GW since the WPE, had a 8 month stint in EVE Online and have been playing City of Heroes for the past 3 months (to a level 50) and I can say that by FAR the general attitudes, comradery and the atmosphere in Guild Wars has slid downhill alot since the WPE and is getting very close to one of the worst I'VE seen since Diablo 2. Even some of the free Korean MMOs have had nicer and more helpful game patrons.

EVE and CoH, both older games than GW, if I recall correctly, have excellent tools for players in regards to chatting (tabbed and sortable channels in EVE's case) and finding groups to team with. Someone mentioned an interface to sort through players by level, location and class? Well, it's there in CoH/V (and don't get me started on the character modeling options between the games). The lack of all these things just makes GW look and feel very...minor league, in comparison.

It makes me wonder why I should pay for any more new chapters when these most basic tools, that aren't even recent innovations, are not even present. Voice chat (and to a lesser extent, character models) being absent, I can understand with the cost of bandwidth and the game not having monthly fees. But the others? Inexcusable for a game like this in this day and age.

Well if this is true they certainly aren't over here listening to what the majority of the player base wants and What does this Red engine gored mean?I wouldn't mind a link from TGH just PM it it me over there.I am not searching for it.

I would say there needs to be better way for communicating.I am not sure what that is though.I don't mind the normal chat as all games have it but get over whelming at times.

Gaile and Alex come here more than any other forum I know, and Devs visit every forum to look at suggestions. Not to mention, every forumer on every GW forum combined is still an extremely SMALL percentage of the game population. The "majority" of the player base are not PvE carebears or the PvP vocal minority. The majority actually plays the game that GW wanted to create with a mix of PvE and PvP.

FYI: A certain foul word turns into "Red engine gored engine..." by the chat filter.

I remember back when GWs was reletively new. People didn't care about builds, PvE groups were easy to get. Heck people asked for groups for QUESTS..........

Problems began when "runners" were invented. People nowadays just run through the prophecies maps, and new players do not get people to group with. Bad? It is. Will it stop? Not unless A-net slams the stick HARD (By hard I mean ECW's Sandman with a shirt saying "A-net extreme nerf icon").

Next we have the elitism in high level PvP. This comes in 2 forms

1. The Rank and Fame system. This has caused the biggest discrimination in the GAME.....New players cannot hope to get a shot in Heroes Ascent due to the horrible elitism.

2. Cookie Cutter builds. Touch Rangers being without a doubt the BIGGEST offender. A random newbie goes into Random arenas and starts hitting away to try to see how his skillbar fares. A touch ranger arrives. You know the story. Newbie gets VERY disheartened and goes there less.

One note for PvE

3. The realms of the Gods. If you aren't running a certain build, or ask what it is. BOOTED

Next, the chat system abuse.

Spammers trying to sell items in local RUIN it for people who want to casually chat or find a quest group. Don't even get me started on Drok's international 1.........

Bots? Ebay? You know this.

A final community problem is how closed minded some people can be.

In abadon's mouth earlier today I was running a healer monk/necro with shadow strike to help a necro friend I was with take out enemies on the battlements (due to the Leeroy team leader not taking an ele). Once the arrogant bonder monk spotted me using it, it was the 4 .'s of "omfg noob". I told him why I took it but it was still the cold shoulder. By the time we got killed due to the stupid "BONUS RUSH" mindset of most of the time. The bonder pinned me for running a non-standard monk build and ignored before he took any flak back.........

There are MANY forms of closemindedness in PvP too, comes under cookie cutter builds.

It's really the community that is causing it. I miss the old days where people didn't think like they do now.

This post probibly doesn't fill with the thread but I needed to greive for the old days ;_;

This game, like your life, is not perfect. I want to drive a Lotus, nail Pamela Lee, and live in Hawaii. Guess what boys and girls, that shit ain't happening anytime soon.

Your expectations exceed reality.

Take a breath. Smile. And know that the game only costs $40 and provides you untold hours of enjoyment. Here in Los Angeles $40 buys me a night out if I'm lucky.

What do you honestly expect for your $40?

Jeeze oO /rant umm the pvp game has let off its called GvG.HA is full of gimmicks and stuff buts its still pretty cool if you find a guy that doesn't give shit about rank.If you think communcation is a problem I think your new at the pvp game because most people use a programs called TS or Ventrilo. There's not a ingame voice mic system.

I don't see why people have so many problems with PVE I don't pve too often but I usaully find a good group on my Monk,or ranger. Some of this missions are difficult and wow people get angry and rage quit, big woop take a 10 minute break after you get zoned back to town and find another group O_o.

Communication? Play RFO for a while and enjoy the wonders of it's communication system. Then report back. I am confident that you will beg for your post here to be deleted.

Personally, I haven't found communication to be that big of a problem for me in-game, which may have to do with the fact that I don't PvP much, though. I find the current system sufficient for most purposes.

Its not the communication, its the players.

The players just cant get along, they just dont care for the most part, indeed cities is a mess, spamming for sales,LFG requests, somptimes a flame war,but not once a nice friendly chat.

But why do you blame that on communication tools?Maybe you didnt but about pvp thats just nonsense, you can get skype if you dont want to pay,if you go get teamspeak or sompthing,if you cant be arsed to go find youre own teamspeak system you cant blame it on the availability on tools.

Oh and its a lack of organization that makes it difficult for groups, nobody listens.

Im standing in Droknars Forge right now, and this is how it makes me feel:

It's absolutely mind numbling. How you can't even agree with me about this is absurd. the chat is moving so insanely fast that its impossible to do anything.

its funny how few cities are overly populated while other certain outposts are totally deserted and left for dead:/

wow everyone.. there is no problem with GW just people's attitude that is starting all this. Come on, you can't honestly think we'll get a MMORPG free of those idiots who think they're better than everyone and that they should cuss, bitch, cry, or do other things to make us feel bad. I believe there are the good players and the bad players.

Speaking of populated look at Grotto or Forge... lol Grotto is full of peoples who go afk there half the time. Wait a minute.. isn't the point of bring Nightfall and Factions is to pull the player base into the next chapter and forget about Tyria?

What the hell? You blame the chat system for fast moving text? Its called spam my friend.

If someone continuously shouts for sales, trades, services or whatever else well ofcourse the text flies by,especially when-and this happens in alot of towns- there are multiple spammers active.

Again thats not the communications system thats the community.

Thats bad luck on both sides, basicly if you where the best player in guild wars but had the rank and fame of a newbie youd be shoved aside, thats one EDIT big opportunity gone to waste!

I heard in Tyria that getting in HoH was easier why they changed that? I love to pvp and GvGvG seems the best pvp in my part but the only way i can get close to HoH is by watching and that sucks

The chat system could be better, it could also be a lot worse.

An auction house would solve a lot of problems stated in this thread but putting those who wish to sell and those actually wanting to buy something, together.

As to those immature players on guild wars improved communication won't entail an improvement of people's attitudes. For that nothing short of the Schutzstaffel, Protection Squad (or online equivalent) will make any difference and then a game lived in free is no game at all.
